One billion people will be displaced or forced to endure insufferable heat for every 1°C global temperature rise if we don’t act as a planet.*
Part of the problem are hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) – powerful climate-warming gases used in refrigerators, air conditioners and other cooling devices, as well as in energy-efficient tumble dryers and washer dryers with heat pumps.
It’s something of a vicious circle. The more the world is heated up and climate change creates extreme weather, the more cooling products will be needed. Which, with traditionally used gases, leads to more global warming. And ‘round we go…
The good news is that if the industry comes together to cut these pollutants, the world could avoid up to 0.5°C** of global warming by 2100.
So we’ll be replacing the high-impact greenhouse gases in our appliances with gases that have a lower climate impact, such as natural gases. This will happen over the coming years as part of our commitment to the United Nations global Cool Coalition initiative which we joined in 2019. This action matters to us as the transformation of cooling technology will make a big contribution to the fight against climate change.
We’re encouraging other companies in our industry to join us as we share the same responsibility.
