Wellness

What does “wellness” mean for different people around the world? Can we improve our daily lives to embrace wellness in the home? At Electrolux, we believe the answer is yes. We partnered with BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions to create a mini documentary, The Home as a Wellness Sanctuary, for its renowned In Pursuit of Wellness series, presented by the Global Wellness Institute. The film shows how our human-centric innovation and Scandinavian design approach create appliances that simplify life and enhance wellness in millions of homes around the world.

“It’s great to have created a film that centres on the importance of providing rewarding and enriching experiences at home” says Nikos Bartzoulianos, Group CMO and Head of Sustainability BA Europe APMEA. The Home as a Wellness Sanctuary does a great job in conveying how our Swedish values deliver the Electrolux Group purpose, to ‘shape living for the better’. From insight and manufacturing to individual product experiences, I’m very proud to see our story told on the BBC’s global platform.”

The mini documentary demonstrates how Electrolux has always been driven by a deep empathy for real human needs and shows how present-day solutions support sustainable choices; from the maintenance of nutrients and vitamins in food during preservation and meal preparation, to the delivery of smart eco features that lower impact during dish and laundry care. Additionally, with the role of air purification and floor cleaning solutions, it all adds up to show how Electrolux makes the modern home a healthier and more enjoyable place to be.

Celebrating a rich legacy of societal change

For more than 100 years, Electrolux has championed social change by innovating appliances that early on liberated women from housework. Led by founder Axel Wenner-Gren, and later by Eva Göthberg who headed the test kitchen in the 1940s, the Electrolux brand’s philosophy has been from the very start to simplify and improve people’s lives in the home.

Sara Hallin Sandström, Design Director, Brand Expression at Electrolux, features in the documentary and explains why Scandinavian design thinking enhances wellbeing. “How we cook, how we clean, can actually shape how we feel every single day. For me, home care is self-care. It’s about creating a space that supports you without even thinking about it,” she says. “Good design can really help you make the most out of your life and out of your home and can provide a sense of calm or inspiration. It enhances your wellbeing and your connection to the world and those around you.”

The focus of the Electrolux Design team is to create products that fit in the home in a natural way, using materials that you recognize in the home such as textiles, wood, and leather. By bringing these natural elements into the home, Electrolux expresses its Swedish heritage. It’s a design philosophy that balances function and aesthetics, with the ambition to create objects and spaces that feel as good as they function.

Sustainable laundry solutions

Elisa Stabon, Head of Product Experience for Product Line Care, works with Electrolux laundry innovations that empower people to make the most sustainable choices for their clothes and the planet, ultimately enhancing their wellbeing. “We know it’s difficult to change habits, like washing in lower temperatures, and we want to support people in doing this. That is why we focus on innovation,” she explains.

Sustainable laundry solutions include the Smart Select function which adjusts cycle time, along with energy and water use based on how dirty the clothes are, while the Stream Refresh function quickly refreshes clothes to remove wrinkles and save up to 96% of water. In addition, for every cycle set via the brand’s app, the Smart Leaf and Care Meter show how efficient the program is and how gentle it is.

Our commitment to human centric innovation is as much about the invisible gains – energy efficiency, air quality, saved time – as it is about performance. As homes evolve, so too will our appliances designed to support them. From the kitchen to the laundry room, from purified air to connected living, our vision is clear: to design for a better life.
